DR. KATHERINE OLDFIELD, ND

Dr. Oldfield is a Washington native and medical director of West Seattle Naturopathic Clinic. She relocated with her family to Nelson BC in 2017. 

She completed her undergraduate degree at University of Washington and attended medical school at Bastyr University, graduating in 2000.  Since 2002, she has owned West Seattle Natural Medicine Clinic with her husband Greg. She served on the board of the WANP for two years.

As a naturopathic physician she feels that that she can truly help patients to improve their health by addressing underlying conditions that are stopping them from achieving their full health potential. She believes in designing an individualized treatment plan that addresses immediate concerns and looks at long-term health goals. Dr. Oldfield specializes in women’s health, menopause including bio-identical hormone replacement therapy, thyroid conditions, digestive disorders and allergies. She utilizes various forms of physical medicine with her patients if indicated. She was a PCC Cooks instructor for many years, teaching classes on subjects such as balancing hormones and managing thyroid conditions.

In her free time, Dr. Oldfield enjoys whole foods cooking, hiking, running, playing with her two children, spending time with her family, reading, gardening and camping.

DR. ARIKA DORTERO, ND, CLE

Dr. Arika Dortero N.D. is a family practice physician practicing in Seattle Washington.  She is a graduate of Bastyr University, with a Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine, and is licensed to practice in the state of Washington.  Prior to Naturopathic studies Dr. Dortero attended Eastern Washington University and completed a Masters of Science with a major in Biology, and she graduated with honors as Magna Cum Laude.

Her areas of study and interest include naturopathic family medicine with special interests in pediatrics, women's health, breastfeeding and lactation support, and adolescent health.  Dr. Dortero believes creating a strong foundation of health knowledge is essential to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.  She believes strongly in the principals of naturopathic medicine, with Docere – Doctor as teacher – being the principal she holds nearest her heart.

In addition to her education from Bastyr University, Dr. Dortero has received special training from Seattle Midwifery School and earned the credentials Certified Lactation Educator (CLE), which will allow her to take the board exam to become an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).  She has also completed additional education in homeopathy through the New England School of Homeopathy.

Dr. Dortero has professional memberships with the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, Pediatric Association of Naturopathic Physicians, and Washington Association of Naturopathic Physicians.  She is also a member of Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility, an organization that promotes policies for environmental and human health.

Dr. Dortero's interest and background in science, humanities, and health has provided her with a holistic view of the world.  She approaches naturopathic medicine as both a science as well as an art.  Arika is dedicated and motivated in providing patients with comprehensive and individualized healthcare

DR. KAREN HURLEY, ND

Dr. Hurley uses natural medicines to treat a wide range of conditions, serving as a primary care physician to children, adults and seniors. Her clinical interests include women's health and menopause, endocrinology, functional medicine, healthy aging and natural weight loss.

Dr. Hurley is also an adjunct clinical faculty member at Bastyr Center for Natural Health, where she supervises clinicians in Team Care. She has taught herbal medicine, clinical laboratory diagnosis and counseling psychology as an academic faculty member at Bastyr University.

Healing Philosophy

Dr. Hurley says, "I derive tremendous satisfaction from empowering patients to transform their lives. My goal is to help them feel stronger, achieve better function and gain a more joy-filled quality of life."

Past Experience

Dr. Hurley has appeared as a guest expert on the Tacoma FM broadcast "Here 4 You," speaking on nutrition and detoxification. She traveled to Haiti after the January 2010 earthquake to provide emergency healthcare at a rural clinic.

Education & Affiliations

Dr. Hurley earned her ND from Bastyr University and her bachelor of arts in literature at Northwestern University.  In her spare time, Dr. Hurley enjoys ethnic drumming and dance, hiking and travel.

DR. ADRIANNE COOK, ND

Dr. Adrianne Cook is happy to be practicing and living in the West Seattle community. Dr. Cook is a naturopathic family physician and 2007 graduate from Bastyr University. She earned her bachelor's degree in 1997 in Nutritional Sciences from the University of New Hampshire minoring in Women's Studies and Environmental Sciences. She moved to Seattle to attend Bastyr University, but took a hiatus from education where she worked at Amazon.com as an operations analyst. This experience furthered her analytical skills, and now aids her in her analysis of each and every patient as well as understanding the rigor of the industry. 

Dr. Cook specializes in optimizing health of adults and helps them obtain a direction to reach their health goals.  Areas of specialty include: fatigue, thyroid and adrenal function, stress management, digestive concerns, hormone balance, women's health (hormone therapy, irregular cycles, PMS, menopause) and men's health (including testosterone therapy).

Dr. Cook is a mother of two children and lives in West Seattle. She is available for talks in the community and can host speaking engagements to small groups. She is a member of the Washington Association of Naturopathic Physicians. 

DR. EMILY LESNAK, ND

Dr. Emily Lesnak is a naturopathic family physician, focusing on pediatric care for patients of all ages, including newborns.  Additionally, she also has an interest in women’s health, specifically during the pre and postnatal period.

Dr. Lesnak is a graduate of Bastyr University, where she received her Doctorate degree in Naturopathic Medicine.  She began her career with a three-year residency in family medicine at Bastyr Center for Natural Health.  Dr. Lesnak has experience as a birth doula and has additional training in Homeopathy and Craniosacral Therapy.  Her additional experience includes rotations at Seattle Children’s Hospital, The Kid’s Clinic, and the Evergreen Emergency Department.  Currently, Dr. Lesnak is supervising the naturopathic shift at the West Seattle High School and teaching at Bastyr University.  She is a professional member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, the Washington Association of Naturopathic Physicians, and the Pediatric Association of Naturopathic Physicians.

Emily grew up in Northern Minnesota and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and Anthropology at Hamline University in St. Paul, MN.  In her spare time, she enjoys cooking and baking, as well as swimming, biking, and crossfit.

DR. MEGAN TAYLOR, ND

Dr. Megan Taylor is a licensed naturopathic physician born and raised in West Seattle. Dr. Taylor practices integrative primary care for adults with digestive complaints, allergies, and autoimmune disease. She prioritizes natural therapies including nutrition, botanical medicine, and homeopathy, whenever possible, and pharmaceutical intervention, if needed. A strong believer in the negative impact of excessive stress on our physiology, Dr. Taylor strives to incorporate mindfulness practices and stress reduction techniques into most patient visits.  

Dr. Taylor earned her doctorate in naturopathic medicine from National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, OR, graduating with honors. She completed two years of post-graduate residency training in primary care and naturopathic gastroenterology under the mentorship of Steven Sandberg-Lewis, ND and Allison Siebecker, ND, LAc, both leaders in functional approaches to complex digestive disorders.  She has advanced training in the diagnosis and treatment of specific conditions such as GERD, Gastritis, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, including microscopic colitis, Gallbladder and Liver disorders, Functional Abdominal Pain, Functional Dyspepsia, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), among others. Additional areas of interest include pediatric gastroenterology, stress management, anxiety, depression, fatigue, thyroid and adrenal imbalances, and gender-affirming care. 

Prior to pursuing a career in naturopathic medicine, Dr. Taylor worked for several years in environmental and urban planning. When not working as a physician, Dr. Taylor spends as much time as possible in her garden, on the yoga mat, cooking delicious meals and enjoying her family and friends. 

DR. COLLEEN HAYES, ND

Dr. Colleen Hayes is a licensed naturopathic physician in Washington state. She received her undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and went on to earn her doctorate in naturopathic medicine from Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington.

As a primary care physician, Dr. Hayes is equipped to see patients of all ages for both acute and chronic conditions. She is particularly adept at uncovering the root causes of disease, which helps her achieve success in treating autoimmune disorders, hormone imbalances, digestive issues, chronic infections, mood and sleep disorders, among many more. A typical visit explores your nutritional status, hormone balance, toxic exposures, genetic predispositions, and emotional well being, in the context of your current state of health.

Dr. Hayes has advanced training in botanical medicine, clinical nutrition, orthomolecular medicine, craniosacral therapy, and hydrotherapy. 

Before medical school, Dr. Hayes spent several years working in Mexico, an experience that initiated a deep appreciation for the importance of providing culturally competent healthcare. Her passion to promote naturopathic medicine has led her on various trips to Nicaragua, Haiti, and Guatemala, where she served as a clinical volunteer for such organizations as Natural Doctors International, Naturopaths Without Borders, and Naturopathic Medicine for Global Health. She is a firm believer in quality healthcare for all, and through naturopathic medicine, she knows that a higher state of health is always possible..
